Lewis Allen

Director of Environments - PORTLAND DESIGN

Lewis is a branding and design consultant who helps clients to develop and deliver their brands in airports, shops and leisure environments. He has over 20 years of design consultancy experience working for leading creative agencies in Europe, the Middle East, India and the U.S.

Whilst at Portland Lewis has helped to develop a design approach for airports that strongly respects the dignity of passengers and has a firm belief that every airport should have a strong ‘sense of place’ in the customer experience. Lewis’s award winning design team has supported clients to develop airports that optimise commercial revenue generation whilst ensuring efficient airport operations. Lewis is a ‘hands on’ designer and is always involved with all stages of projects from master planning, concept development and through to the fine detail of the fixtures.

Currently he is leading projects in Europe and spearheading Portland’s design offer in India where Portland are supporting India’s leading brands to create customer experiences that blend the best of the east and the west – for airports, malls and high streets.

Lewis is an avid writer of articles for travel retail and retail magazines and journals. He is a regular speaker at industry events and always relishes the opportunity to present and debate the burning topics of the day!

Diego Arrosa

• Getting first contacts into the duty free business in 2001 at IOSC as Category Manager of Liquors & Confectionery

• In 2006 gets in charge of San ROQUE, the leader chain of Pharmacy and Perfumery at Uruguay domestic Market with more than 25 branches all over the country.

• In 2008 takes the General Manager position of Duty Free Uruguay with the Challenge to build the retail duty free environment in the new terminal.

Angela Gittens

General Director - ACI

Angela Gittens, an over twenty-five year airport veteran, began her tenure as Director General of Airports Council International (ACI World) in 2008. Prior to joining ACI, Gittens served as Vice-President, Airport Business Services for HNTB Corporation, where she led the firm’s practice in airport business and strategic planning.

She has held top executive positions at three of the largest US airport systems – Miami International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and San Francisco International Airport – including leadership of a multi-billion dollar capital improvement programme. As Vice president at TBI Airport Management, she oversaw the transition to private ownership of London Luton Airport and managed operations contracts at several airports in the US and Canada.

Gittens has served on numerous aviation industry boards and committees including FAA and NASA advisory committees, the Executive Committee of the National Academy of Science's Transportation Research Board and the Board of Directors of JetBlue Airways.

Francisco Heredia

President - ASUTIL :: 2010-2011

  • Graduated in Naval Engineering from Universidad Tecnológica Nacional de Buenos Aires – Argentina.

  • Master Degree in Business Administration (MBA) with Honors, Diploma “Cum Laude”, from Universidad de Palermo – Buenos Aires and Universidad de Valladolid – Spain.

  • Getting first contacts into the duty free business in the 70´s.

  • Since 1986, he accompanies the vigorous growth of London Supply S.A., covering different management positions such as: new projects, purchases, marketing, public relations and Project Leader of the Puerto Iguazú Free Zone complex and Puerto Pañuelo Port in Bariloche.

  • He has attended and given specialized courses and seminars within the private, public and academic field, related to his activity.

  • He was already elected as Asutil´s President for the period 2000-2001.

Santiago Llairó

Corporative Affairs - JTI

“Santiago LLairó is Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication (Director de Asuntos Corporativos y Comunicación) Worldwide Duty Free in JTI. JTI – Japan Tobacco International - is a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco, Inc. (JT), the world’s third largest international manufacturer of tobacco products.

Mr. LLairó joined JT International in 1998, developing a career in a number of different markets and global positions in Finance, Sales and Corporate Affairs, including the general management of Andorra market. He has extensive expertise both in tobacco and travel retail industry, he is the spokesperson for the worldwide duty free organization in JTI. He is of Spanish nationality and has done studies at ESADE Business School and IESE.”

Alain Maingreaud

Managing Director - TFWA

Managing Director of TFWA since 1st August 2010, Alain Maingreaud has been the Exhibitions & Business Development Director of the association since 2007 and prior to that he was Commercial Director.

Having worked for over 15 years at TFWA, Alain has been closely involved in all aspects of the organisation of the annual TFWA exhibitions and conference activities for the duty free and travel retail industry.

Economist. Expert Consultant in Economics from Argentina.

Speaker in ASUTIL 2006, 2007 and 2009.

Es director y fundador de M&S Consultores desde 1991, una de las consultoras económicas y financieras más importantes del país. Como director de M&S Consultores asesora a las principales empresas e instituciones argentinas y extranjeras.

Es Licenciado en Economía por la Universidad de Buenos Aires y Master en Economía por la Universidad Di tella. Se desempeñó en la Gerencia de Investigaciones Económicas y ocupó la Subgerencia del Área Externa del Banco Central de la República Argentina.

Es autor de numerosos trabajos sobre macroeconomía argentina y sector externo.

Michael Payne

Executive Director - IAADFS

Michael has served as Executive Director of IAADFS for 14 years. In this role he has oversight for implementing the organizations activities including its advocacy/government relations program and overall responsibility for the Duty Free Show of the America’s Trade Show.

Michael also serves as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of SmithBucklin, the world’s largest association management company. Michael’s corporate responsibilities include oversight of Government Relations, Washington, D.C. and St. Louis office operations and client management. He is also responsible for his company’s Global Partnership alliance.

Michael’s more than 30 years of government, association management and convention and trade show experience has included work in health care, manufacturing and the professional services sector. Prior to joining IAADFS, Michael held a number of positions within the U.S. government, including Deputy to the Assistant Secretary for Congressional Affairs of the U.S. Department of Commerce. His specific areas of expertise include international trade, environmental affairs and infrastructure development.

Michael is a former chairman of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), Chair of the PCMA Educational Foundation and has served as an Advisory Board Member for several hotels and convention bureaus including the Hilton, Starwood and Fairmont Hotels.

Sandra Vaucher

Regional Marketing Director - DIAGEO

Sandra is the Regional Marketing Director, Diageo GTME Americas, responsible for the marketing programs for the Americas Travel Retail business.

Sandra joined Diageo at the beginning of 2008. She has a breadth of experience in a variety of marketing and commercial roles, having previously worked at Procter & Gamble, Eastman Kodak and the Mark Anthony Group. Her career has encompassed both domestic and duty free markets in the Americas.

She is a graduate of Babson College, Wellesley Park, Massachusetts with a degree in Entrepreneurial Studies and Marketing.
